Four generations of one family have successfully completed a challenge of visiting every Premier League ground within three days.

Mike Cook, of Bridle Close, in Enfield Lock, along with uncle Tony, grandfather Roy and cousin Jack, all from Enfield, took on a lifelong challenge to visit all 20 stadiums in 72 hours.

The aptly named ‘FourCooksTwentyPrems’ challenge saw the boys travel 1,192 miles in less than two-and-a-half days, stepping inside many of the famous grounds and going pitchside for a photo.

Mike Cook, who came up with the idea, told the Enfield Independent of his desire to visit the best grounds in the country.

He said: “I have always wanted to go to Old Trafford (Manchester Utd), Anfield (Liverpool) and St James Park (Newcastle Utd).  As a big Spurs fan I am used to a really nice ground at White Hart Lane but it’s on a small scale compared to the bigger ones in the Premier League.

“I was thinking last year could I possibly do a tour of these three grounds just to have a chance of seeing the size of them, when looking into prices of a tour in each ground the cost including travel was quite expensive.

“When I realised the distance involved I knew to contact my 'motorway machine' lorry-driving uncle Tony. We met up, and with a list of the clubs started to plot possible routes and milage along with costs.

“He was straight away on board with taking on this challenge and decided we could do this in three days as long as we were disciplined.”

The team contacted all 20 Premier League sides for the forthcoming season, asking to be able to get a picture inside the stadium.

To Mike’s amazement, 14 of the 20 teams wrote back to the family, accepting their challenge.

For the remaining six sides who did not respond, which included Arsenal, Chelsea, Queen's Park Rangers, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Sunderland, the family settled for a picture outside the grounds.

When asked about the complexity of entering each ground, Mr Cook said: “I haven’t seen or heard any one or group travelling around each ground gaining entry to pitch side, changing rooms, executive boxes, dugouts, trophy rooms, and main receptions like we did.

“To get round 20 stadiums in that timescale plus entering the stadium and talking to all stadium officials really does take some doing.”
