A successful open day is hoping to raise the profile of a community centre.

Cedar’s youth and community centre, in Chicheley Road, Harrow, offered up something for everybody this weekend with its second community day.

The £4million centre, run by Watford FC Community Sport and Education Trust, is keen to make an impact in the area having been there for just over a year.

Among activities on Saturday were boxercise classes, gym sessions, computer skills and numerous sporting activities.

Families also had a chance to pose with the FA Cup and Champions League trophies, and children got to meet current Watford player Fernando Forestieri as he dropped by the centre.

Chief organiser Lisa Golding said: “We have been here for two years and it is brilliant that we are doing this because not a lot of people know we are here.

“We want to try and connect more with the community and make them more aware of us. People drive past and don’t know what we have to offer.

“We have quite a few of centres set up but Harrow is very close to the club and we have so much going on over the summer.”

Christian Murray, of Peel Road, in Harrow, brought his children Jon and Heather and admitted he was not aware of the community centre before.

He said: “I had no idea it was here but there are some fantastic facilities and summer courses which will be good for my children.

“I think a lot of people haven’t heard of them because there doesn’t seem to be too much publicity but now we know it’s here, we’ll be coming back.”

Not only was sporting activities on offer in the blistering heat but people enjoyed a number of music performances throughout the day.
