EALING Judo Club was celebrating a gold medal for one of its members, Nekoda Davis, in the women's under-57kgs event at the Commonwealth Games.

She beat Scotland's Stephanie Inglis in the final before declaring on twitter: "I can’t believe I am writing this but I am COMMONWEALTH CHAMPION!!! Woop woop!"

Others who will be sharing in her big moment are customers of the Yoyo Kitchen, opposite West Acton station, where Nekoda worked for a while.

Reader Dominic Trenkel sent us these photographs of the messages of support and told us she lived with his sister and brother-in-law and worked with them before leaving to join the England training camp.

Nekoda, 21, is now based at the British Judo Centre of Excellence in Walsall.

She came through a nail-biting semi-final with Canadian Jessica Kimklait, which finished scoreless in the regulation four minutes and became the only semi-final of the day to be settled by a golden score in overtime.

She secured the gold medal win with a Waza-ari throw, which she followed up with a 25-second hold-down on Inglis to deny Scotland the victory.

Nekoda now has set her sights on the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Ealing Judo Club was formed in 2003 with just 15 members but now has a thriving membership of around 100. It meets three days a week at West Acton Community Centre in Churchill Gardens. Contact EalingJudoClub@hotmail.com
