A woman who once delivered milk and attended parties at Buckingham Palace has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Doreen Forrester marked the milestone on Monday, July 21, at Tadworth Grove nursing home in The Avenue, Tadworth.

Her friend Carol Sibbons said she was born in New Southgate and her family moved to a farm in Essex where she worked and delivered milk.

She married Major Frederick Kemp-Forrester at the age of 25 and they went on to have a daughter, two grandsons and three great-grandsons.

Mrs Sibbons said the couple were invited to parties at Buckingham Palace because her late husband was on the committee of an armed forces charity, Not Forgotten.

"After having to move out of London due to the war, they spent 20 years in Warlingham, and the rest of her life in Epsom," said the friend.

"Doreen has many special memories of her visits to Buckingham Palace."
