A one-day jazz festival returns to the borough with a bebop and a bang next month.

Award-winning musicians will appear alongside local performers and a student ensemble as part of the second annual jazz festival in Hampton Hill.

Headliners include the Gwilym Simcock Trio with Yuri Goloubev and Asaf Sirkis, Andrew McCormack and Jason Yarde duo.

Pianist Terence Collie and vocalist Janet McCunn teamed up to create a monthly jazz night at the stylish award-winning French Retro Bistro in Teddington two years ago that went from strength to strength.

Following their success they set up the festival as an all-day music extravaganza, which looks to be an annual event, with the venue booked for 2015 already.

Ticket-holders will get discounts at nearby restaurants and can pop in and out of the festival, at Hampton Hill Playhouse, as they wish.

Organiser Janet McCunn, who will also perform at the festival, says: "It's quite a big thing, people who have never heard of Hampton Hill will be coming to our festival.

"We think it is really important to keep live jazz going and we are really excited about it - it is a community event."

As well as jazz connoisseurs enjoying the main festival, the public can reap the wider rewards after organisers set up additional community events to grow the music-making.

McCunn says: "This year we are going even bigger because last year we decided we wanted to extend it."

The festival will see a jam session take place at the Bell Inn pub, open to whoever turns up.

She says: "It is going to be a little festival of its own.

"It is open to anybody and they are going to do special food."

There will be a house trio led by Terence Collie on piano, Paul Michael on bass and Ted Carrasco on drums at the jam session, which runs from 8pm until 11pm and is free for the public.
