Business people all over the borough have been waiting anxiously for the finalists of the Merton Best Business Awards to be announced.

On Monday the wait was over as dozens of businesses and individuals from Merton were chosen as finalists by judges.

A record number of entries this year has seen an increase of 30 per cent compared to last year, with more than 100 submissions from every type of business including cafes, theatres, salons and hotels.

For the first time this year, young people will be honoured in a category entitled Best Young Person of the Year.

Diana Sterck, Merton Chamber of Commerce chief executive said: "The categories reflect the diversity of businesses across the borough.

"Everyone is very excited to find out who will win."

Run by the Merton Chamber of Commerce, the awards help to showcase the talents and services of businesses and business people in the borough.

The winners will be announced at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon on Friday, October 3.

Tickets are currently on sale for finalists and available to members of the public from Friday, August 1.
