The borough's schools are leading the way in their plans to be more green.
Sutton has the highest sign-up rate to the Eco-Schools scheme in London and the seventh highest rate in the country.
The Eco-Schools scheme asks schools to form pupil committees that audit their schools to look for ways in which they could be more environmentally friendly.
Since its launch 15 years ago, 88 per cent of Sutton's schools are now part of the scheme.
Councillor Wendy Mathys, chairwoman of the children, family and education committee at Sutton Council, said: "We believe in being a green council and it is wonderful that so many of our schools have signed up to the Eco-School programme. I hope that all our young people will be inspired to take what they learn and set an example at home and in their communities."
Barrow Hedges Primary School in Carshalton has signed up and is preparing to set up an eco-lodge for outdoor learning and the installation of solar panels.
