Poppies will be floated in Carshalton Ponds to form the centre piece of Sutton's World War One commemoration.
Alongside towns and cities all over the world, Sutton will mark the centenary of the start of the war on Sunday, August 3.
There will be a ceremony at the war memorial from 4pm while hundreds of poppies turn the ponds into a sea of red.
The mayor, representatives of various faiths, armed forces, the Royal British Legion and the families of the names featured on the memorial will all feature in the ceremony.
All Saints Church will mark the occasion with a peal of its bells.
Lord Graham Tope, chairman of Sutton Council's organising committee, said: "We hope that as many people as possible will be able to be present to see the borough undertake this act of remembrance.
"The full details will be available in the coming days but we wanted to make sure that everyone was aware as soon as possible as to the events which are taking place."
"These acts of remembrance will be over a period of four years and we will be staging events all over the borough."
