Soak up the atmosphere and cheer on world class cyclists and amateur bikers as they race through Leatherhead next month.

RideLondon-Surrey will see thousands compete in a 100-mile amateur race before professionals take on a 125-mile version on the same day.

Even if you are not racing, the day is a great chance for families to get together to watch the action and enjoy the buzz around town.

Jamie Chisholm, owner of Bike Bean Cycle Cafe in Ashtead, says he took part in the race last year and will be heading down to Leatherhead to promote his cafe this summer.

Mr Chisholm: "It was the best cycle 100 miles I have ever ridden. It’s a fantastic atmosphere. If anyone lives on the course, it would be great if they came out and supported it."

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts at the Olympic Park, passes through London, goes along the roads of Surrey and returns to the capital.

The mass-participation cycling race is followed by the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, a race for 150 of the world’s top professional male riders.

Former World Champion and 25-time Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish will lead the line-up on Sunday, August 10.

Cavendish says: "It’s another opportunity to race in front of the amazing crowds in Britain.

"Coming after the Tour de France and Commonwealth Games, more and more people are going to be at the roadside cheering us on and wanting to be a part of the weekend."

Councillor Chris Townsend, leader of Mole Valley District Council, says they are gearing up to welcome 24,000 amateur riders as well as professional riders and spectators on the day.

Coun Townsend says: "Sunday 10 August is going to be a fantastic day and we hope that the thousands of visitors to our district will enjoy all that our vibrant towns and beautiful countryside have to offer."

The organisers are looking for volunteers to take on roles such as wayfinders and marshals.

Fran Stevens, who volunteered as a marshal in Dorking last year, says: "I had such a lot of fun and met some lovely people. I got to see the professionals whizz passed us in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, which was my highlight.

"It was an exciting day, fantastic to be in the middle of it all."
