Aspiring poets have the chance to write their own verse about the outbreak of the Great War.

The Broadwalk Centre, in Station Road, Edgware, is inviting people to enter its poetry competition based on the events during the war.

Judges will select two winners, one under 16 and one adult entry, to receive a £50 book voucher.

Centre manager Angela Brooks said: “Poetry played such a significant role in the war so we wanted to launch this competition to inspire local residents and shoppers to put pen to paper and showcase their creative writing in a unique way.”

All entries should state the writer’s name, age, telephone number and address.

They can be dropped off at The Broadwalk Centre management suite or posted to The Broadwalk’s WWI Poetry Competion, C/O PMW Communications, Stane Court, Stane Street, Billinghurst RH14 9HP.

They can also be e-mailed to thebroadwalk@pmwcom.co.uk

The closing date for entries is Sunday, July 27.
