Identity of Hillcroft College 'right to be forgotten' petitioner to remain a mystery

The principal of Hillcroft College has declined to say whether he has discovered who was behind an attempt to suppress a Surrey Comet report.

Earlier this month a 2010 report into a disastrous fundraising concert, which lost the college more than £400,000, had been removed from some Google search results after a mystery individual invoked their "right to be forgotten" under EU law.

When questioned Michael Wheeler said he would investigate to find out who that person was.

But on Wednesday the Comet was told: "Please be advised that this is an internal matter and that Michael Wheeler has no further comment to make."

MP Edward Davey, a Hillcroft patron, has said: "Using this law to expunge digital history is bad enough, but doing so without the permission of those involved, seemingly at random, is even worse."
