A prolific burglar who targeted homes in the borough for a year has been jailed for three years.

David Adams, 29, from Wimborne, Dorset, burgled homes in Walton, Hersham, Weybridge, East Molesey, West Byfleet and Pyrford between May 2013 and April this year.

Adams was arrested at a property in Paddington on June 10 in relation to 10 burglaries in East Molesey and Weybridge and was charged and remanded in custody while police investigated other burglaries.

He later admitted another 37 offences and pleaded guilty to all charges at South East Surrey Magistrates’ Court on June 13.

Adams also admitted to further burglaries, a total of 72, in addition to those he was charged for.

Woking neighbourhood inspector John Davies said: "Adams' offending brought misery, distress and inconvenience to the lives of those residents he targeted.

"He broke into homes throughout Surrey, Dorset and Hampshire, taking thousands of pounds worth of jewellery, cash and computer equipment.

"The fact that he has pleaded guilty to and admitted so many offences will come as a huge relief to the affected communities and will reassure our local residents that we will relentlessly pursue those who commit burglary.

"Adams was a blight on our local communities and I'm pleased that he's now off the streets and behind bars."

He was sentenced to three years in prison at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday, July 15 for 10 charges of burglary and 72 offences were taken into consideration.
