Cyclist taken to hospital by air ambulance

A mother has died aftter falling from her bike and suffering a suspected severed artery.

Hyacinth Maynard, 40, of Cooks Close, Leytonstone, had the accident on a woodland path in Wanstead Park.

The incident happened on July 6 at 5.24pm and emergency services were called to the end of Warren Road.

She was with her teenage son at the time of the incident and it is believed her own bike caused the injury.

Passers –by and park staff attempted to resucitate Mrs Maynard and stem the flow of blood.

But Mrs Maynard had suffered a severed femoral artery, one of the main arteries in the thigh.

An air ambulance was called and landed in the park.

It tool her to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said: “The next of kin have been informed and there will be an inquest into her death.”

Walthamstow Coroners Court said it is investigating the cause of death.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: "“We were called at 5.24pm to reports of an incident at Warren Road, close to Wanstead Park.

“We sent two responders by car, a duty officer, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and London's Air Ambulance to the scene.

“We treated a woman in cardiac arrest at the scene.

“We made extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient. She was taken as a priority by ambulance to the Royal London hospital, escorted by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance.”

A spokesman for the Corporation of London, which owns the park, said: “This was a tragic and very sad incident, staff and passers-by did their best to help the emergency services.

“As with all serious incidents we are reviewing safety arrangement as well as helping police with their inquiries.”

The path has been resurfaced since the incident.
