Students braved the rapids when they took part in the white water rafting festival.

Aylward Academy, in Windmill Road, Edmonton, represented Enfield at the schools' festival, which took place at the Lee Valley white water centre in Waltham Cross.

The centre, which hosted the London 2012 canoe slalom event, welcomed 500 children from across London, Hertfordshire and Essex to the festival to test their skills on the rapids.

Lee Valley Regional Park Authority chief executive, Shaun Dawson said: “The legacy of the Games is all about young people and they are central to our work. Today’s schools festival brings together 500 children from across the capital, Essex and Hertfordshire to raft for free.

“For many of the youngsters, it’s their first experience of this adrenaline sport and we hope that this will be a springboard to getting into white water sports and becoming the stars of tomorrow.”
