A petition has been launched calling for proposals for a council run farm to be put on hold.

The campaign has been started by those supporting Pinner Park Farm, which is owned by Harrow Borough Council.

Last month the council announced proposals to build new homes and create a country park on the 230-acre site to provide greater public access to green belt land.

The authority is currently consulting on two proposals including the restoration of historic farming buildings which would be turned into homes and sold.

Neither of the current proposals includes farming on the site.

This Is Local London:

Campaigners are calling on the council to extend the period of consultation to allow time for other proposals to be developed which would allow farming to continue.

The petition website is called moreoptions.org.uk. On it, campaigners say: “We are a collection of residents who would like to see more options considered and the consultation process opened up and extended to give time for alternative proposals to be developed.”

Amost 500 people have so far signed the petition, but organisers hope to get more than 2,000 by the end of this month.

Last week more than 150 members of the newly formed Friends of Pinner Park Farm group met with the farmers hear about their work on the site.

People are also able to view the plans on the Harrow Council website as part of the ongoing consultation until July 22.

After this the council will draw up a master plan based on public feedback, and hold a second consultation based on the revised proposals later this year.
