Charlton Athletic's promotion-winning 2011/12 season features heavily in a novel about two men whose live become intertwined with the club’s fortunes.

University of Greenwich lecturer Paul Breen’s book The Charlton Men is set in the aftermath of the 2011 riots and follows two fans – one lifelong Addicks supporter scarred and by war in Afghanistan and feeling abandoned by society, and an Irishman who has come to London and fallen in love with Charlton.

Both men fall in love with the same Marilyn Monroe lookalike.

The Charlton Men is Paul’s first book and he hopes it will form part of a trilogy.

The 42-year-old said: “Fans on blogs and websites are already vying for roles in the film when it is eventually made! I think I'll have to sell a few copies first of all though.”

The Charlton Men is out now, published by Thames River Press.
