Schools are set to close as teachers, firefighters and other public sector workers go on strike tomorrow.

The National Union of Teachers and other unions have coordinated the timing of industrial action over issues including job and spending cuts, pensions and pay.

Firefighters will strike between 10am and 7pm and other union members will strike throughout the working day.

In this area, Epsom and Ewell High School and Rosebery School will be closed tomorrow.

There will be partial closures at Auriol Junior School, Blenheim High School, Meadow Primary School and Shawley Community Primary School.

The Royal Kent CofE Primary School in Leatherhead will be partially closed and Linden Bridge School in Worcester Park will be closed.

The strikes include members from UNISON, Unite, the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) and the GMB union.

Surrey County Council said: "GMB and UNISON members who are Surrey County Council staff will not be involved in the national action because the council has separate local pay arrangements.

It added: "Surrey employs no PCS members and, while some of its employees have links to Unite, none are expected to be on strike."

Meanwhile the Fire Brigades’ Union are striking once again over proposed changes to pensions.

The county council said: "Non-striking firefighters will give emergency cover to increase the number of fire engines available, and will be backed up by Surrey County Council’s contingency contract with private company Specialist Group International (SGI) to help keep our residents safe."

SGI crews have completed the full 17-week firefighters’ training course.
