Supporters of the campaign group Keep Our NHS Public (KONP) met in Sutton last week.
Over 70 people attended the event at the Friends Meeting House in Cedar Road, to hear talks on the effects of government health reforms.
The evening was titled The Betrayal of the NHS, and was organised by the campaign group's Sutton branch.
Dr Bob Gill, a south London GP, explained how he thinks the government have tried to introduce an American-style private healthcare system.
Health economist Dr Lucy Reynolds talked about her belief that hospitals are being deliberately loaded with debt, so they are forced into private sector takeovers.
Saleh Mamon, chair of the KONP Sutton branch, said: "Keep Our NHS Public will continue to try and keep the public informed about what is really going."
The event took place on Friday, July 4.
