Tributes have been paid to a 22-year-old expectant mum who died after being hit by a car - allegedly driven by her boyfriend - on Saturday.

Jessica Fenner was just weeks away from giving birth to a baby girl when she was involved in a collision with a car outside the address in Glastonbury Road, St Helier, where she was celebrating her baby shower at 9pm on Saturday.

Your Local Guardian:

Miss Fenner and Mr Dutfield

In the weeks before the tragedy Miss Fenner and her boyfriend Daniel Dutfield had posted excited Facebook posts about the arrival of their baby daughter and their plans to move into a flat together.

Mr Dutfield, of Trinity Crescent in Tooting,  has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He appeared in front of Croydon magistrates via video-link this morning and has been remanded to appear at Croydon Crown Court on July 21.

Where the collision happened

Miss Fenner, who worked at a branch of homeware shop Wilkinson's, and Mr Dutfield were expecting the birth of their daughter in the coming few weeks. Prior to her death Miss Fenner and Mr Dutfield took to Facebook to share their joy and excitement and even post scans of the unborn child.

In May, Miss Fenner wrote: "Had a lovely evening with Dan Spudz Dutfield not long till us 2 become 3 can't wait to meet our beautiful baby girl xx"

And less than two weeks ago she said: "So happy with my new flat can't wait to start moving stuff in."

But, since tragedy struck on Saturday, friends of Miss Fenner said they are struggling to come to terms with the news.

Friend Jenny Meadows said: "I sincerely cannot believe that such a lovely young women such as Jessica Fenner is gone so soon.

"I used to work with Jessica and every time I was in a bad mood or needed help she was always there for me.

"I will always miss her lovely personality."

Tom Edwards, who went to Stanley Park High School with Miss Fenner, added: "She was a very nice young lady. She was attractive and friendly and had a lot of friends. I was very sad and upset when I heard the news."

Others took to Facebook to express their sadness. Ally Bee-Bowley said: "Poor poor Jess... Her whole life ahead of her. RIP Hun."

Kelly Mac added: "Can't believe it, I'm in shock, so so sad."

Officers from the south west serious collision investigation unit are investigating the incident. If you saw anything or have any other information you can call detectives on 0208 543 5157 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
