Pregnant horse dumped in Crockenhill loses foal but gains new friends
4:14pm Monday 7th July 2014 in News
A pregnant horse dumped outside an animal rescue centre in Crockenhill has lost her foal but gained some new well-wishers.
Bluebell the mare gave birth to a stillborn foetus on June 28 more than three weeks after she was dumped outside Second Chance Animal Rescue Centre.
She had been starved for up to 12 days and remains ill having contracted the potentially deadly blood infection salmonella.
A group of Sidcup office workers moved by Bluebell's plight have raised £540 for Second Chance after seeing the story in the News Shopper.
Employees of the Met Police who work at Marlowe House raised the cash by donating raffles prizes of wine, chocolates and brandy.
Evidence review clerk Lisa Cole said: "It was really nice to meet Bluebell and have a little cuddle.
"She's still not out of the woods but she's a lot better.
"The people at Second Chance are really nice and they do a great job so hopefully the money will help with some of the vet bills."
