Walton Bridge could soon add a third accolade to its name after being shortlisted for the British Construction Industry awards.

The £32m bridge, which was completed last year, has been shortlisted for the award weeks after winning its latest honour from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

It received the community award at the ICE’s London regional ceremony in May and best overall award in its south east awards last month.

John Furey, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: "Winning twice is already a huge compliment to our highways teams and contractors, and a third success would underline even more their hard work to improve Surrey’s roads."

The bridge is shortlisted for the civil engineering project of the year in the £10m to £50m category, with the awards ceremony taking place on October 8.
