A charity kart event at Mercedes-Benz World raised £60,000 for the Henry Surtees Foundation and Brooklands Museum.

The third annual Henry Surtees Foundation Brooklands Team Challenge, held on Tuesday, July 1, saw 140 karters from the worlds of business, motorsport and media competing in a 35-team grid.

Former Formula 1 champion John Surtees, who celebrates both the 50th anniversary of his championship victory and his 80th birthday this year, mixed with race drivers including Lucas di Grassi and Sam Brabham at the event, which saw "LNT" Ginetta triumph as the winning team.

Also taking part were Boyzone member Shane Lynch and Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole.

The event also hosted demonstrations of iconic Surtees cars, including his F1 championship winning Ferrari 158, which was driven by Mr Surtees himself.

An auction of items donated to the foundation also contributed £27,000 to the day.

The Henry Surtees Foundation, set up in memory of John Surtees’ late son Henry, provides accident care and helps those who have suffered brain or physical injuries return to community living.
