Firefighters and school teachers will join other public sector workers in strike action next week.

Union members will be taking action on Thursday over what they say are unfair pensions, low pay and heavy workloads.

The firefighters’ strike will result in Tottenham and Hornsey fire stations being closed between 10am and 7pm.

Schools will also be shut as general trade unions GMB and UNISON will take part, alongside teachers’ union NUT.

Haringey TUC secretary Keith Flett said strikers from the borough’s various unions will travel together to the central rally, which begins at BBC’s  Broadcasting House at 11.30am.

He added: “The idea is that we’ll have a Haringey contingent on the march”.
