Deptford's Danny Baker is to see his early life adapted into a new sitcom for the BBC.

The presenter, a keen Millwall fan, grew up in Deptford and now lives in Blackheath.

He will co-write the series with Jeff Pope, which will be called Cradle To Grave and is based on his memoir Going To Sea In A Sieve and the follow up book due out later this year, according to the Radio Times.

His sitcom will apparently have an air of Only Fools And Horses about it, in a bid to up the number of working class comedies from the broadcaster as called for by BBC TV boss Danny Cohen.

It is expected to feature Danny Baker's "wheeler-dealer" days growing up in Bermondsey and will fit into the area of comedy envisioned by Cohen when he joined the corporation three years ago.

No actors have been signed up to the show yet, but Baker told the Radio Times that "we have some extraordinary casting choices".

A BBC spokesman would not comment on the programme.
