Large parts of Richmond have been marked for potential development as the council looks to shape the borough’s future.

Richmond Council wants residents’ views about the Site Allocations Plan, which has looked at several sites that could be redeveloped in the next 15 years.

They are Royal Mail delivery offices in Hampton, Teddington and Mortlake and Barnes, Metropolitan Police sites in Barnes and Hampton and the Cassel Hospital in Ham.

Other sites being considered are Teddington and St Margarets stations and St Mary’s University.

Council cabinet member for planning Councillor Susan Chappell said: “It is important for as many people as possible to comment on these plans as it identifies areas of change in the borough for the next 15 years.

“Development opportunities are limited in the borough because much of the beautiful heritage is in protected green space areas.

“We must make the best use of sites where regeneration is possible - I would encourage everyone to get involved in the consultation to make sure your views are heard.”

The council previously consulted on 40 sites last year.

Opposition spokesman for planning Martin Elengorn said: “We want the Sorting Offices to remain on site as valued local amenities.

“Should there be a change in the future however, a combination of employment and housing would very much be a second best.

“Teddington is a busy station and one where people change trains.

“There is no way to get from one platform to another except over the footbridge which makes life very difficult for the elderly, the disabled, parents with buggies and cyclists - urgent action by Network Rail is required.”

The consultation runs until July 21 and is available online at consultation.richmond.gov.uk/environment/additional_sites/consult_view.

People can also cast their eyes over the consultation at libraries in the borough.
