A man has been jailed for six years after raping a teenager in Walton.

Zeeshaan Sheikh, 21, of Link Way, Woking, denied at Guildford Crown Court earlier this year raping a 14-year-old girl on November 20, 2012.

Sheikh picked up the victim and drove her to the car park at the Weir Hotel, Waterside Drive where he raped her.

Shortly after the incident, Sheikh flew to Pakistan but he was arrested at Heathrow on his return to the UK a few weeks later.

After his trial at the same court, which began on Monday, June 23, Sheikh was found guilty by the jury, who delivered a unanimous verdict. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment on Monday, June 30.

Detective Constable Gordon Krebel said: "This outcome has been made possible thanks to the bravery of the victim combined with tireless work of a number of dedicated officers.

"The tenacity of the investigating officers demonstrates that Surrey Police will use all available methods and resources to relentlessly pursue those who commit serious offences of this nature within our county and bring them to justice.

"Surrey Police has a dedicated team that specialises in investigating serious sexual offences and reports will be thoroughly investigated. Victims can be assured that their welfare will be our priority.
