A woman has died in a house fire this morning.

A total of four fire engines and around 21 firefighters were called to the blaze in Exeter Road, Walthamstow, at around 2.10am.

The first floor and half of the ground floor were damaged by the fire and crews found the body of a woman on the first floor, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man jumped from the first floor before the brigade arrived and was suffering from smoke inhalation and back injuries before being taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Firefighters from Walthamstow, Woodford and Leyton fire stations got the fire under control by 03.05.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
