Richmond's biggest youth club is to undergo transformation after the council approved a £700,000 grant for building work.
Oakland Building Services has been commissioned by Richmond Council to rebuild the gym to the side of Heatham House, starting construction work this month.
The gym, expected to be refurbished by the end of the year, provides indoor activities but is not Disability Discrimination Act compliant.
Improvements include redesigning the current stage to create more floor space, provide a purpose-built fitness suite and showers and a disability toilet.
Council cabinet member for children’s services Councillor Paul Hodgins said: "The children of this borough deserve the very best.
"The centre has been part of the fabric of this borough for decades.
"The money the council is investing will ensure this proud tradition continues long into the future and for generations of Richmond’s children and young people."
