Walton Bridge has won a second award from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) after being named the best all round project in the Thames Valley.

The £32m bridge, which was completed last year, was among 29 projects shortlisted for the ICE’s engineering excellence south east England awards.

Entries on the shortlist included new road schemes, flood defences, railway station upgrades and river lock repairs.

The bridge was handed the top award at the ICE Thames Valley dinner on Friday, June 27 and was recognised for its iconic structure and vital community and commercial link.

Andrew Richards, ICE Thames Valley branch chairman, said: "The judges recognised immediately that this project was in a league of its own for engineering excellence.

"The judges particularly noted that the project was completed with no accidents or reportable incidents.

"The project team is to be heartily congratulated on this showpiece example of Civil Engineering at its best."

Last month, Walton Bridge won the community award at the ICE London awards.
