Street dance fever will hit the borough as a showcase with budding choreographers storms Kingston.

The Ignition Dance Festival features seven talented young choreographers cherry-picked from an open call.

The crew will street-dance their way across Kingston with outdoor freestyle shows before they make their way to the Rose Theatre for their final piece produced by Kingston’s Canbury Road residents, the BalletBoyz.

Kathryn Woodvine, arts commissioning manager for Kingston, says: "There is a lot of dancing going on in the borough but it's not joined up or connected so we wanted to change that and raise the profile of dance.

"It’s going to be very varied.

"Some of the dancers are really influenced by topical issues of today such as what is going on in Ukraine, others prefer the more humorous light-hearted dance telling a story about everyday life.

"It is going to be a real mix of different styles.

"An audience who is not used to dance will appreciate it and people with an open mind."

The Ignition Dance Festival is part of the month-long International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF) run by charity Creative Youth.

Some emerging choreographers who have worked on the showcase have previously danced for the BBC, the Greenwich Dance Agency, the San Francisco Hip Hop Dance Festival as well as the Breakin’ Convention at Sadler’s Wells in central London.
