IT’S sporting season, which means World Cup and Wimbledon matches fill the TV airwaves all week. Make the most of the July sunshine by getting out and about to one of the many events scattered around Hillingdon.
Here are my top five suggested items in the borough for under £5.
Tuesday, July 1
A one-hour bingo session at the DASH Hub, Uxbridge, provides easy-to-follow games for those with disabilities. Prizes will also be up for grabs – all for just £1. Games begin at 10:30am. For more details, contact email@example.com or 02088488319.
Thursday, July 3
Say it with flowers at Ruislip Manor Library for a look at floral demonstrations from the 1950s through to the modern day. The Flower Power event runs from 7-9pm and is presented by the borough’s adult learning team. Tickets cost £5, which also includes refreshments. For tickets, contact Jane on 0208 384 4170.
Saturday, July 5
Heathrow Primary School and Heathrow Villages summer fair takes place on Saturday between midday and 3pm. The event, which includes something for all the family, will be at the school in Harmondsworth Lane, West Drayton.
Saturday, July 5
Forget Glastonbury, for a festival with a twist, head to Pinn Meadows, Ruislip, between midday and 3pm for a scything festival and picnic. During the morning, the Friends of Pinn Meadows will be putting their scything techniques into action, collecting seeds from plants for autumnal sowing. At midday, everyone is welcome for a picnic, while Ruislip Fire Brigade will be attending with their engine. Expect family games including rounders, giant Jenga and croquet.
Sunday, July 6
Eastcote House Gardens will be the subject of a weekend archaeological investigation. On Sunday, an historic building recording and surveying session will run between 10am and 1.30pm. Entry is free, but spaces are limited. To book a place, contact Catherine.Edwards@aocarchaeology.com
