A 46-year-old man who was arrested at St Pancras International station on suspicion of smuggling heroin into the country is set to appear at court on Monday.
William Sowersby, of High View Road, Upper Norwood, was stopped after he arrived on a train from Brussels on Tuesday afternoon.
Following searches Border Force officers recovered around 70 small packages containing heroin.
The estimated weight of the packages was about 750g, tests are now being carried out to determine the purity and value of the drugs inside.
Sowersby was later questioned by investigators from the National Crime Agency’s border policing command and charged with attempting to import a class A drug.
He appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday and has been remanded in custody until Monday.
