17-year-old boy arrested over alleeged hit-and-run death of Brenda Croke in Abbey Wood
A teenager has been arrested in connection with the death of a pedestrian in an Abbey Wood alleeged hit-and-run.
The 17-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after Brenda Croke, 64, was mown down and killed by a black Range Rover in Finchale Road on Thursday last week.
The suspect has been bailed until September as enquiries continue into the incident, which happened at around 11am at the roundabout with Eynsham Drive.
Ms Croke was walking on the pavement with a male companion whom she reportedly moved to protect before being struck by the 4x4 which had lost control turning left at the roundabout.
Ambulance crews and an air ambulance were called but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver allegedly fled the vehicle, which did not have number plates.
Ms Croke of North Stifford, Grays, Essex, was found to have died from multiple injuries following a post-mortem examination at Greenwich Mortuary on Monday.
The incident is being investigated by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
