A Brooklands College teacher has been commended for his persistent enthusiasm to improve the lives of students.
Peter Avenell, assistant head of the college’s engineering department, was presented with the transforming lives award, given to teachers and tutors who help adults change their lives through learning.
Mr Avenell was nominated by the head of the department for his work with students on the foundation degree in motorsport, through which he helped developed practical and academic skills alongside their personal attributes.
His work meant adult learners involved has research, project managed and mentored other learners to produce to competitive race car and team.
Student David Guillifoil said: "As a result of working with Peter, I have gained an excellent job offer with Barwell Racing which allows me to continue to work with the Brooklands College, support my family and pursue my career in motorsport.
"I know the other students feel as strongly as I do that we would not be working as we are without Peter’s infectious enthusiasm."
