Two sea cadets from Enfield to be rewarded on Armed Forces Day

Sea cadets will receive awards as part of Armed Forces Day Parade commemorations.

The parade, which will take place on Sunday, June 29, will see sea cadet Rosie Colquhoun and leading cadet Jessica-Ann Edwards receive awards for their achievements on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen.

The girls, both members of Enfield Sea Cadets, will be presented with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant's award.

On a day organised by the Royal British Legion, serving troops, their families, veterans, recruits and cadets will make their way from the Enfield Town Memorial on Windmill Hill to the Civic Centre, where the Armed Forces Day flag will be raised.

Brendon Farrell from Enfield Royal British Legion said: “Armed Forces Day will be especially poignant this year as we are also marking the centenary of the start of the Great War and the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

“I would like to welcome Enfield’s residents to join me as we remember the work of our armed forces and to show support to those who are currently serving.”

Councillor Doug Taylor, the Leader of Enfield Borough Council, said: “This year is a unique occasion to reflect on the sacrifices our armed forces made in the past – during the maelstrom of World War I, which started 100 years ago this year, and in the many other conflicts since then.

“Our armed forces do a difficult and often extremely unpleasant job with the utmost professionalism, and we owe them an enormous debt of gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities we take for granted today.

“We must never forget that 100 years ago we were standing on the brink of the world’s first ever global conflict and earlier this month 70 years ago, our troops were storming beaches in France on D-Day and attempting to roll back the tide of fascism which had engulfed Europe.”
