A care home held an open day with a twist, by channelling the 1940’s.
Everyone at the Cumberland centre care home got into the spirit on Friday June, 20 to celebrate VE Day, which stands for Victory in Europe Day.
The holiday is normally celebrated in May to mark the end of the War.
They celebrated all things British, with British flags, hats and bunting decorating the centre.
A variety of food and snacks were provided including trifle, jam sandwiches and ending with a fish and chip supper. The care home previously held a themed day for the Jubilee in 2012 as well.
The day was open to members of the public and all of the residents and employees were involved, with lots of them dressing up in old themed gear.
1940’s style live entertainment was on hand as well, with singers Simon and Beth Renous singing a number of classic songs.
Traditional childhood games and activities which many residents remember were also played, such as hopscotch and skipping.
Laura Shepherd, active living coordinator at the care home said: "I liked the whole style and mood of the day, I found it very dignified.”
