Most World Cup sweepstakes can get a little competitive - but one charity’s lottery helped raise £30,000.

Camp Simcha, in Queens Road, Hendon, held a special big screen viewing of the England vs Italy game on Thursday.

Almost 300 guests turned up to the dinner event at Kinloss Synagogue in Finchley, which was sponsored by firm HBSF Wealth Management.

The event also included an auction, in which people had the chance to bid for football shirts signed by Emmanuel Adebayor and Christiano Ronaldo.

Although England lost 2:1, pundits Ivor Baddiel, Paul Barber and Simon Johnson gave a guests a live commentary throughout the match.

Camp Simcha supports 24-hour practical and emotional support to families who have a seriously ill child.

Chief executive Neville Goldschneider said: “It was a great evening and there was a real buzz in the air, although a different score at the end of the 90 minutes would have been a preferable.

“But the main purpose of the evening was to create a fun community event to raise money and awareness about the work Camp Simcha does providing 24-hour practical and emotional support to families who have a seriously ill child.

“We achieved that goal thanks to the wonderful support of all those who came and also thanks to the backing of HBFS.”
