Story one

A radical Muslim convert who once called for Sharia Law in Waltham Forest has been convicted for what is being labelled as the first case of Muslim sectarian violence on the streets of Britain.

Story two

Media students were given a rare insight into the film industry and the life of a Bafta-winning actress at an exclusive film screening.

The 15 young people from Highams Park School sixth form, in Handsworth Avenue, Highams Park, made the the trip to the Courthouse Hotel in London on Thursday, where they watched The Young and Prodigious T S Spivet and had a Q&A session with Helena Bonham Carter.

Story three

The health trusts running the two main hospitals serving the area have by far the biggest debts in London, raising fears for patient safety, jobs and services.

NHS figures show Barts Health, which runs Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, and Barking Havering and Redbridge Hospitals Trust (BHRUT), in charge of King George Hospital in Goodmayes, are both about £39million in the red.

Story four

There are calls for police to increase patrols on an estate after a man was seen brandishing a gun and a stash of weapons and ammunition was found.

Story five

A decision on whether Waltham Forest Council will enforce the purchase of a former cinema, which has been at the centre of a long-running dispute between the community and the evangelical church which owns it is, will be made next month.
