The Guardian's chief photographer Ken Mears picks his favourite pictures of the week.
Picture one
Children from Thomas Willingale School in Debden performing at the Debden Day Show. The picture is made by the looks of concentration and enthusiasm of the singers all performing in harmony together
Picture two
An attempt to break the world record for most people taking part in a tennis lesson - 406 people. The only way to get everyone in for a picture of them all tossing a tennis ball in the air was to climb onto the roof of the clubhouse. Then after a countdown they did what they were asked.
Picture three
Laura Hayward celebrates her 100th birthday at Eagle Lodge in South Woodford. This sprightly lady was really full of beans and wasted no time in toasting herself with a glass of bubbly.
Picture four
Cricketer Arfan Akram batting for Wanstead in their match against Loughton. The frozen composition of the ball, the stumps and the bat together with the concentrated expression of the batsman makes for a strong image.
Picture five
Art student Hannah Mehew from Epping St John’s School with some of her artwork from a recent exhibition. It is an interesting arrangement showing off Hannah’s strong images.
