A filmmaker has been shortlisted for an international festival for his short feature written, filmed and edited in the borough.

Omar Sattaur, from Harrow, has had his short film called Parasite selected for the Viewster Film Fest and could be in with a chance of winning part of a $100,000 prize.

The theme for the festival is entitled ‘Relationships: It's complicated’ and Mr Sattaur’s comedy is about a father and son having a conversation and not entirely understanding each other.

The 27-year-old said: “When I found out it had been selected for the festival I was delighted. I think it means more to me because this film deals with something quite personal to me.

“I think the film says something about my relationship with my parents, but it will also connect with a lot of other people who were born in this country but whose parents were born somewhere else.

“My parents were born in Guyana but I was born here and there is a bit of a gap between the generations.”

The former Harrow College student has previously had a film feature at a festival with his work, 'The Volt Heads' winning Best Documentary at ReductionFest 2009.

He said: “I think my love of film started when I was a child. We had a camera around the house and I would always play with it, making little home movies.

“When I was in school there were more chances to use film equipment so I really got interested in making my own films.”

The Viewster Film Fest is an online festival to showcase the work of upcoming filmmakers to a wide audience and give them the chance of winning money to help pay for their next project.
