Two new free schools announced for Kingston today but where will they go?

This Is Local London: Is Kingston's old gasworks site still up for grabs? Is Kingston's old gasworks site still up for grabs?

Two bids for primary schools in Surbiton and Kingston have been approved by the Educational Funding Authority this week but no details as to where they may be have been released.

Christian group Chapel St has been given permission to open Kingston Community School in September 2015 as a two-form entry primary school and a three-form entry secondary school from 2017.

At the same time GEMS Learning Trust, which runs free schools including in the United Arab Emirates, were given permission to open Surbiton Primary School – a two-form entry school expected to open in September 2015.

No details have yet been given as to where the two schools would go.

Doctor Russell Rook, chief executive of Chapel St, said: “We are aware of the increasing need over the coming years for additional school places and we look forward to further developing our relationship with the Local Authority to ensure we are all achieving for children in Kingston."

Councillor Andrea Craig, lead member for children, youth and adult learning, said: “This is fantastic news for Kingston and I welcome these new free schools to the Kingston schools family.

“They bring much-needed extra places and resources to the borough for local children and their families.”

The previously approved Kingston Academy is also set to open next September at the North Kingston Centre.

Great but where will they go the council is giving permission to build homes here there and everywhere with no thought to the infrastructure to sustain it.

Absolutely. Kingston is overcrowded and therefore needs more schools so build them far away! What brilliant logic.
