Woman saved by police after being found floating face down in Chislehurst pond

This Is Local London: Rush Pond - photo Dr Neil Clifton 2006 Rush Pond - photo Dr Neil Clifton 2006

Three police officers saved a woman from drowning after she was found floating face down in a Chislehurst pond.

A 19-year-old female was discovered unconscious in the middle of Rush Pond on Ashfield Lane just before midnight last night (June 17).

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene and had received reports she had already died.

But sergeant Brett Smethurst and constables Natalie McNeil and Mark Inzani managed to get her breathing again after wading into the water, pulling her out, and administering CPR and first aid.

They did so while two other women, also 19, were "being obstructive and abusive" throughout.

The pair was arrested at the scene for being drunk and disorderly and given fixed penalty notices at a local station.

The casualty meanwhile was taken to a south London hospital, where she remains (June 18).

Bromley Borough Commander Chris Hafford said: "I'm very pleased that my officers were able to give the lady the medical care and treatment she needed in a challenging environment where both darkness and the water hazard made their actions more difficult.

"We all wish her well and hope she makes a full recovery."

All well and good having rescued the waste of space. You're not going to tell me the one in the pond wasnt drunk either? I know this will sound callous but if they want to get in that state, Best leave em to it, its about time these type of morons learned to drink responsibly. the police service and medics could be saving a more vital life in the time it has taken to drag out and resuscitate this worthless individual and contain the abusive co horts.
Brings a while new meaning to'pond life'doesn't it?

Can't agree on this one. Two things. Firstly we don't know that the woman in the pond was drunk. Even if she was, maybe her drink was spiked. Who knows? However, secondly, even if she was blind drunk, I think it's a bit harsh to say that they shouldn't bother rescuing her. I bet there's not many people out there that haven't drunk too much and done something stupid when they were 18 or 19 - or even when a lot older. People make mistakes. Also, if you're going employ that logic, you could say exactly the same about anyone that gets injured doing a dangerous sport or crosses the road at a dangerous spot and gets hit, etc. - It's there fault so don't bother helping them.

Yes my comment was callous, I said it would sound so, so is drinking to extremes and wasting emergency services time and our money with the outcome.
If you cant hold your drink then don't drink. If you feel you have to be a glorified p155head, why should our services have to keep picking up your tab? There are more important issues to be seen to.
Well done to the police and medics for the job they did rescuing and caring for her during the incident, and for applying a fine on the two abusive ones. I wonder if they will have learned a lesson from this? Maybe..........until the next time and the next time.

At 19 yrs old, she hardly had enough time to work out limits. Kids today are not like us when we were their age. We were "responsible"? And had good work ethics. A lot of these 19-24 years old these days are still children, plus the media are continuously advertising bad behaviour. These kids must be confused and miserable.

I value human life in the right circumstances, not got time for abusive, aggressive psss heads though. IMO, they are a waste of space, a drain on the emergency services, and our taxes.
As for me, only got drunk once in my youth, wasnt abusive, wasnt aggressive, wasn't a drain on the emergency services, hated the hangover the next day. That's was enough for me thanks.

But the woman being saved wasn't being abusive and offensive, and we still don't actually know that she was drunk. Again, it's easy to judge but who lives the perfect life? Should we not save someone that has a heart attack if they're overweight? - surely they've brought that on themselves. Should we not treat someone for cancer if they smoke? These are all massive drains on the health service that one could argue are self inflicted.

She didn't know this girl but felt the need to make some sick comments which were disgusting to anyone apart from those maybe of a similar political leaning.

Hope there is such a thing as karma and it visits SLB one day.

Thank you for posting your rendition of me,all good thoughts I see lol.
As for my 'pals' voting, I think you will find that I dont need 'pals' voting on my behalf, thank you very much. they all have minds and opinions of their own. Who ever votes thumbs up for the likes of me and thumbs down for the likes of you obviously don;t share your views, so maybe karma is visiting the correct person instead - you.. Happy days.

Of course you are just little miss perfect, you've never done a stupid thing in your life have you ?

I think not !
Yes I have done some irresponsible things like reading and responding to your comments. Still haven't learned my lesson yet though! BUT, it beats getting off my head on booze and drugs.
Don't knock it until ya tried it.

I have a question for you ....are you real or has someone got their hand up ya drawers working you like a glove puppet ?
The very same question could be asked of you, but it is for me to know and you to find out, I'm not doing your homework for you.
Never fear there's no chance of me doing you as homework dearest, not even wiv a paper bag over ya noggin.

THAnK u
Thank the lord for that, and dont you mean paper bag over ya noggin? I rather think so, Bet my noggin looks better than yours.

I reserve good thoughts for good people and on reading your many postings on this site that show your true colours then cant really put you in that category my dear.

You are right though, Karma is visiting me. I have always treated people fairly and without prejudice, my reward has been a happy existence, lots of good friends and a very successful career which my beautiful family enjoy the fruits of. My kids see the world we live in and embrace it through travel and their close friendships with many from different cultures. So there you go SLB, I feel that I have been truly blessed and I don't think it's all down to luck.
