The head of a disability organisation faced his fear of heights as he skydived 10,000ft for charity.

Mark Pearce made the leap on Saturday, raising £500 for Dimensions which supports people with learning disabilities.

Mr Pearce, who is regional director for Dimensions in Finchley, said: “The skydive was an amazing, exhilarating experience. As I had thought, it took me completely out of my comfort zone but I faced my fears because I knew that raising money for Dimensions would make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism.

“Jumping out of a plane was scary but I am so glad that I did it. Without the opportunity to fundraise for a cause such as Dimensions, I would have been unlikely to ever do something like this.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be able to help the people we support at Dimensions to really live the lives they choose. They overcome challenges all of the time and I am so pleased to be able to support the organisation in this way.”

The money will be used to enable the not-for-profit organisation to pay for projects such as sports activities, assistive technology and respite care.

Having overcome his fear, Mr Pearce is considering taking to the sky again.

He said: “I never thought I would say this but I may actually do another skydive in the future. It went far too fast and was incredible.

“Initially, when I sat hanging two miles up in the sky I thought ‘why am I doing this?’ which was quickly replaced by a true sense of achievement. I enjoyed every second.”
