Dozens of families with children of all ages paraded through the streets of Waltham Forest yesterday to honour the important role of fathers.

To mark Fathers Day today, The Potter's House Church congregation, based in Lea Bridge Road, led a procession from Bakers Arms to the Coronation Gardens in Buckingham Road, Leyton.

The Leyton park was then filled by an afternoon of activities organised by former dance DJ Gilchrist Thomas.

Mr Thomas, 39, of Bosworth Close, Walthamstow, said Father's Day is often overshadowed in comparison to Mother's Day and wanted to bring families and single-parent fathers together with a range of team games.

Entertainment and games include a rodeo bull, tug-of-war, a penalty shoot out, three legged races, face-painting, a bouncy castle and drama, music and poetry.
