Talented youngsters from a Mitcham school will take part in a national dance competition alongside Diversity stars.

Children from Beecholme Primary School in Edgehill Road, will be among those to show off their moves on a dance floor made from Pavegen technology.

Each dance floor tile harvests the wasted energy from footsteps to generate electricity – this way the dance floor can power a giant camera to capture images of the performers.

It has been created by British Gas.

The dance floor will be open to the public from the evening of Thursday, June 19, to Sunday, June 22, with Diversity dance stars Jordan and Perri on hand on the first night to show everyone their skills.

Headteacher Kaye Seamer said: "The students can’t wait to meet Jordan and Perri and we have a dance teacher coming in to teach them some moves that will help them create as much electricity as possible.

"It’s a really fun way for them to learn about energy, but there’s also an amazing prize up for grabs that could make a real difference to everyone at the school."

The event will take place at the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, London.

Three winning schools, chosen for their creativity and the amount of energy they generate, will receive an energy makeover worth up to £150,000 for their school.
