New project in Tottenham aims to show how social media can provide a STEP on the career ladder for young people
Students were given tips on using social media to boost their career prospects during sessions at a new initiative launched this week.
The Social Training Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) aims to help students gain work experience, a step on the career ladder or even the inspiration to start their own business.
The project has been founded by social media expert Katie King, who grew up on a council estate in Tottenham and has gone on to work at places including the BBC and become the managing director of PR agency Zoodikers.
She launched the first session with students at Haringey Sixth Form Centre in White Hart Lane on Wednesday.
She said: “Project STEP has one simple goal: to help young people understand how to use social media effectively in order to access the world of work.
“It’s a real pleasure for me to go back to the area that provided me with my drive for success, and to try and convey and develop that same drive to hopefully inspire a few young people at Haringey Sixth Form Centre in White Hart Lane.”
Katie is looking to get some backing from companies involved in Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium regeneration and the wider area to broaden the scope of the project.
