A group of residents has started an initiative to debate the possible redevelopment of Crystal Palace Park.

‘The Information Project’ has been formed by concerned locals who want to discuss the impact large-scale changes would have on the community.

This month kicks off a series of talks involving architects, planners, politicians, and London-based broadcasters.

Historical trends, the culture and design of the area, economic problems, and environmental repercussions are just a few of the subjects up for debate.

The organisation mentioned a number of issues Crystal Palace might face as a result of the park being transformed.

One is London’s Olympic legacy, which it said has created “an illusion of festivity that seems unsustainable”.

The first talk, ‘Heritage and Legacy: In the Shadow of Dinosaurs’, will take place at the Salvation Army Worship Hall on Wednesday June 25.

The rebuilding of the Crystal Palace has been talked about for nearly eighty years. Now that a proposal is finally on the table people claiming to represent the locals want it scuppered?

As I have written before, it is because of the Crystal Palace there is history & character to the area which bears its name. It the Palace had never been built the whole area would be nothing more than the featureless suburbia which stretches down to Thornton Heath.

Yeah, just give a chunk of public land to a Chinese consortium, who will then charge extortionate fees to use any facilities, Bromley council should be ashamed, bunch of crooks.

The Tory plan for the park was expensive homes for yuppies, the Labour plan was "affordable homes for Londoners".

If anything should be built on the site of The Crystal Palace it should be The New Crystal Palace.
