Pupils at a Chingford primary school have met David Beckham, a host of 2012 Olympians and the prime minister this month.

Year 5 pupils at Chase Lane Primary School, in York Road, visited Number 10 Downing Street after participating in celebrations marking the parade of the Queen's Baton for the Commonwealth Games in central London on Sunday.

The group of 20 children, aged nine and 10, made the trip after headteacher Carolyn Houston received an invitation to drop by for tea and cake.

She said the chidren were "filled with excitement and anticipation" during the visit.

The headteacher added: "Sitting in the gardens of 10 Downing Street, having tea with David Cameron and Nicola Adams is a day we will all remember forever.

"It was truly magical and a huge honour to be invited."

During the celebrations ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month, the pupils met 2012 Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams MBE and 16 year-old BMX rider Molly Pattison.

The school's most famous ex-pupil David Beckham dropped into the Chase Lane on May 9 as part of his role as an ambassador for Sainsbury's 'Active Kids' programme.

Beckham gave a talk to 180 year ten pupils, took a tour of the school grounds and gave advice to the under 11s football team who went on to win national finals at Wembley on May 25.
