This Is Local London: Abullah Seyed was fined £295 for misusing his relative's blue badge Abullah Seyed was fined £295 for misusing his relative's blue badge

A Kingston University student who used a disabled relative's blue badge to park illegally has been order to pay almost £300.

Abullah Seyed, 23, admitted misusing the badge when he appeared at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court last week.

Seyed was caught last November when his car was seen parked in Grove Crescent, Kingston, displaying a blue badge issued by Southampton City Council.

Enquiries by both Kingston and Southampton authorities found the badge had been issued to a family member of Seyed's who lived 70 miles away in the Hampshire city.

Seyed was fined £75 and ordered to pay £200 costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.

Councillor David Cunningham, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Misuse of badges deprives disabled people of parking spaces they need.

"We take a dim view of people who try to cheat the system and avoid paying to park, thus depriving borough residents of vital income.”

Seems a fair result. Hopefully enough to persuade him not do it again.

What happened to person whose badge he used I thought if it was misused like he has done badge was revoked and rightly so I think because if you aren't using your own badge why do you need one. Its like the mini cab office opposite Sutton Police Station drivers using blue badges to park outside the cab office. I actually asked one driver is that your badge ? he just smiled and drove off think the police should check into what's going on with the badges.

Great ethics taught by Kingston University to its students results in such crimes.

Although fairly laissez faire about many things, one thing I despise in this country is people ripping-off the Blue Badge scheme. Often, it’s a bovine minority, often tattooed, 4X4 driving, the kind of lumpen ‘what the f**k is it to you?’ drones who think that entitlements offered to the less able-bodied are theirs for the picking.
