Ten people were arrested over violent crimes, drugs, theft and a weapon at the Derby, police said.

Some of them were arrested for more than one offence as 120,000 racegoers enjoyed a day out at the world famous races.

There were seven arrests on suspicion of violent crimes including assault, three arrests on suspicion of drug offences, six arrests on suspicion of theft and an arrest on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon in a public.

Last year police said 16 arrests, including one for GBH and another for minor assault on a police officer, were made by 7.30pm on Derby Day.

This year three people were arrested following an assault in Grandstand Road near the Duchess’s Stand as punters left the racecourse.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with facial injuries and another man in his 20s was also assaulted but did not need hospital treatment.
